"You need to structure your writing clearly, to allow your ideas to shine"

Great Workshop today with Peter! I feel like I need reminding about this at least once a week, It was really useful! Peter gave us a tip to look up "Writing for University", I can highly recommend it. I have not had chance yet to go into depth and read the whole thing but here is an exert for everyone that I will most definitely be printing out in big to keep me on track!

The exact way you structure your writing will depend on your particular writing context (a lab report will have a different structure to a discursive essay); however, most written pieces will need the basic structure outlined here.

((I had to do a quick Google...

**** What is discursive essay?
Discursive essay is another kind of academic papers, which is used to check the students' skills and knowledge. Its main particularity is the aim to provoke discussion on the call-off topic. As a result the author joins the conversation about any situation, even, issue, or problem. ****))
INTRODUCTION – say what you are going to do Interpret the issue and say why is it important. Interpret and define key terms. Say how you will answer the issue/question and the order in which you will do so.

BODY – do what you said you would do Start to explore the issue. Continue to explore and develop the issue. Push further and identify extra dimensions and distinctions within the issue. Move on to clarify what you feel is at the heart of the position you have arrived at.

CONCLUSION – say what you have done Bring things together by summarising what you have said and clarifying the position you have

With an essay looming, my greatest fear is that I cannot get all my thoughts/ideas/lists/brainstorms down coherently. I hope today's exercise of Free writing will help me. It felt great to do that. I'm intrigued as to what the outcome will be!? But first of all I need to go deeper into my research. So far I have only lightly brushed the surface. Maybe some of you have got some point of interest that are worth looking into for me?
