Breaking it down: how will I approach Module 2?

After reviewing Module 1 and looking at where my 'weakness' lay I started taking another look back at Ethics. However after the discussion groups last Wednesday and Thursday I am taking it back a step further. Our Zoom discussion made me realize I had read the handbook and my head had been filled with information, possible ideas for inquiry but mostly a big old blghhhhhhhh! I didn't know what to do with it all!!! So in this Blog I will start by making a summary for myself (and hopefully it's helpful to others) of how I am approaching this Module.

  • Remember - you're not doing the research this module, but doing the research design
  • Researching Research - looking for literature and artifacts about research and not the field of my enquiry
  • We are not setting out to answer our questions, but trying to explore it and give it a context
  • Allow questions to emerge, to find your ultimate question (Helen described this with a great piece of imagery: imagine dropping a pebble into a pond and watching it ripple, follow the ripples and immerse yourself )
  • My approach - what methodology will I use --> then, what you're going to do --> Ethical considerations
  • Use the MORE application, open up a new document and literally copy and paste the relevant  questions. It is a great outline
  • How you plan to analyze the information and the collections of data

The ripple effect - follow the ripples, it alters direction and form but all inextricably linked together

Bearing in mind the ripple effect and the process I should follow to carry out my research and ultimately find my question and field of enquiry, I would like to share one of my possible ideas.

CREATIVITY.

What is it?

How do we define creativity?

Is creativity an idea (any idea) and putting that idea into practice, the process of it becoming the end result you imagine?

Or is it purely that initial idea?

If so creativeness can be applied and is used in any occupation?

So for different jobs there are different styles of creativeness?

I'm just throwing these questions out there as they came to me! Please feel free to comment on anything, maybe you have a thought on one of those points. Please share them, it will all be relevant.

Here's where my thoughts branched too next: what could effect creativity?

Process
Transdisciplinary
Nature or Future
Time/circumstances
Environment
Motivation
Inspiration

So I'll leave it there for today, but what great discussion groups we had last week. A big thank you to Helen for her guidance and words of wisdom and to all who were there listening and contributing. I find some discussion groups I get more out of than others if I'm being honest. Sometimes I still feel a bit at a loss afterwards but this time I was really inspired so thanks to ALL!!!

  1. Hi Lauren, great blog and summery, thank you for sharing! I think it so great to get thoughts into words as it almost allows you to move on without actually forgetting what's important. Creativity is such an interesting topic, especially because it could lead to so many different questions! I was actually having a conversation with someone at work about it today (I work in a Primary School), and the teacher (who is very arty/creative) told me that people often tell her she looks creative based on her appearance. I then told her that I am often given 'creative tasks' to do with the children because I am a dancer. I love performing, but personally wouldn't consider myself the most creative person (the idea of choreographing something completely freaks me out) but my colleague then shared that she thinks everyone is creative, but some people don't have the confidence to express it. This really intrigued me. I look forward to hearing about your thoughts as you go on further with this idea x

  2. A great summary Lauren and the key points you highlighted have really help keep my head on track! I have made a start on the MORE form today and the idea of keeping a word document open to copy and paste is really helping me create some structure for my inquiry!

The idea of creativity and what it means is something I can really relate to - a bit like Alice mentioned, I am seen by others as being 'creative' because I dance, but I am actually a very logical thinker. Subjects (like maths, history, science) with data and facts were always my strong suit at school so some parts of this course, particularly the artefacts, I have struggled with getting my head around and trusting my instincts. This is something that I am working on and hoping to improve throughout this module! xx

  3. Hi Lauren, thanks for this blog... it helped to remind me of some things that were said that i missed.... i.e the MORE form. So i think thats a great way of doing it... then you ultimately have got your proposal layout?
In regards to your inquiry question... creativity... do you believe ALL people are creative...can you learn creativity or is it just something inside that you can harness if you desire to?

  4. I wish I saw this at the start of the module! It was comforting to read this blog after nearly completing module 2 and realising how far I have come from this Skype!! We are all near the end and it's amazing
